2007 US Open History

The 2007 US Open golf championship was held at the Oakmont Country Club from June 14 to June 17, 2007. It was the 107th edition of this premier golf tournament, and returned to Oakmont Country Club after a 13-year break since it was last played there in 1994, when Ernie Els took top honours. Oakmont lies a few miles northeast of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.

2007 US Open winner

The winner of the 2007 US Open was Angel Cabrera, who became the first Argentinean to win the US Open. The total prize purse for the 2007 US Open was $7 million, of which Cabrera earned $1.26 million for his win.

2007 US Open first round

On what proved to be a very tough first day, there were only two players who managed to break par during the first round of the 2007 US Open golf tournament. These players were Nick Dougherty of England, who posted a two-under par score of 68, and eventual winner Angel Cabrera of Argentina who managed a one-under par score of 69.

2007 US Open second round

The lowest-scoring round of the second day of the 2007 US Open belonged to Paul Casey who shot an excellent four-under par score of 66. This was an especially commendable achievement in light of the fact that the average score for the day was 76.933. There was only one other player to shoot an under-par score on the day - Stephen Ames with 69.

2007 US Open third round

The stand-out player on the third day of the 2007 US Open was Aaron Baddeley, who posted a level score of 70, which included a birdie on the 18th hole. This gave him a two-shot lead going into the final round. Baddeley was lucky to end the day in the lead after Tiger Woods, who had played the first 17 holes safely under par, bogeyed the last hole.

2007 US Open final round

Angel Cabrera showed his winning form on the final day of the 2007 US Open by posting a good-enough score of 69. He had been four shots behind at the beginning of the final round after having a disappointing third round over 6-over. Also in close contention for the win were Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk - who both needed to birdie the 72nd hole to set up a playoff the following day. Neither achieved that feat, effectively handing Angel Cabrera the winner's trophy for the 2007 US Open.
